Synopsis

Feeling dead in her marriage of more than twenty years, Elizabeth Fairchild, 42, ditches the dream of her seemingly perfect life with her husband in search of who she really is.

She had gone from her parents' house to her husband's home and never learned to stand on her own two feet. Her husband, Greg, isn't abusive or cruel, just rather neglectful. Her kids are all out of the house, off to college. Feeling that not much is left for her at home, she leaves her comfortable life in Napa Valley, California in search of her inner fire in New York City. She didn't leave to find another man but soon finds herself involved with two very different men: Jack Stevens and Kevin Parker.

Jack is older than Elizabeth by 9 years. He has heart-stopping good looks, is wildly successful and very much in control of everything around him - especially Elizabeth.

Kevin is younger, by 14 years. He is exuberant, carefree, has a heart of 24k gold, is a middle school Spanish teacher and is quite okay with Elizabeth taking the reins.

Which dream is really Elizabeth's? Her quiet life in Napa? Or her wild ways in New York?

Excerpt

I shuddered when I felt his lips on my ear then placing small kisses down the trail his

finger had just made. I moaned at the sweet sensation his lips caused.

Next his left hand was coming up my left arm, over my shoulder and his fingers curled

around the fabric pulling it slowly from my shoulder and he slid the fabric all the way down my arms. I heard the soft whoosh of the silk hit the floor and I waited for his hands to be on me again.

I started to turn to look at him standing behind me, but his hands were on my hips to stop me. Why wouldn’t he let me turn to see him? I wanted to see how he was feeling with this. I needed to see how I was affecting him, because I was falling apart.

“Do your panties match your bra?” he whispered into my ear, his voice choked and

hoarse.

Again, language having vacated my head, I could only nod. Immediately, I felt his left

hand find the trousers’ zipper on my hip and slowly pull it down, his right hand gripping almost painfully into my hip. His hands took hold of the waistband and he started to lower his body behind me, his nose running down my back. I heard him inhale and then groan as he made his way to my waist.I longed to see him crouched there behind me, but couldn’t find it in myself to turn and chance a peek. When he reached to the top of my pants, he slowly pulled the pants down to reveal the matching lace panties. I smiled quietly to myself. Where some women would have chosen a thong, that just wasn’t my style. The panties that I chose to match this bra had a full lace back. “Fffuuck! So hot,” Jack muttered behind me, and my small smile broke into a grin and I dropped my head back. Hearing that I had pleased him caused desire to pool in my panties. He inhaled deeply, his nose at my junction. “Delectable.” My knees started to wobble.

Just touch me! I wanted to scream.

He took ahold of my hand and put it on his shoulder then helped me step out of my pants, but leaving my heels securely on my feet. “These make the outfit,” he said, caressing my foot. He tossed my trousers off to the side somewhere and slowly stood. As he did, he dragged his hands up my legs, over my hips and waist. His touch was so tender it was driving me crazy. I pushed my hips back to feel him against me again. I craved his touch, my body singing for attention.

About The Author

The short story:
I'm the wife of a most fabulous man for twenty years.
I'm a mother of 2 busy teens.
I'm a dog lover.
I'm a serious drinker of coffee and wine.
I live near New York City.
My favorite place that I've visited is Monaco.
My favorite color is green (but I look best in pink/salmon).
My favorite food is chocolate.
My favorite kind of music is New Country.

The long story:
I've always been a creative sort of person... I started with my college studies in Advertising Design and Illustration. I'm good at drawing and coming up with clever ideas.
As for story telling - well, that's where I have the most fun! Ditching The Dream is my first novel, but I've been working on writing movies since, what seems like forever. Way back in high school my friend Aimee and I started writing a movie and I was hooked. We didn't know what we were doing, but we loved coming up with the story. I also like to come up with stories about people I don't know. Like the guy that cut me off on the expressway...He had quite a story - at least in my mind! Who knows? Maybe I've come up with a story about you! ;)

Ditching The Dream is a story that came to me while I was helping two author friends of mine. I was helping them with their books and I would make suggestions to amp up their stories along the way. Bev and Amy encouraged me to write my own story and Ditching The Dream was born. Is it auto-biographical? No, not in the least. But it sure has been a fun story to come up with (especially when my hubby gets involved with coming up with ideas).

Bang...

One second: loud music, dancing, laughing, fun, family, friends, love and everything...

Bang...

Next second: screaming, running, crying, fear, pain, blood, loss and nothing...

Bang....

The events of one night on Willow Island will irrevocably change the lives of so many
forever.

Breesan Maxwell’s ultimate downfall came that night after one kiss. The impenetrable
wall surrounding her fragile heart crumbled, and now the entirety of it belongs to one man, Marcus Walker. Finally accepting his love along with those she denied for years, Breesan finds that it is vital to her existence.

Better judgment and commitments be damned, Marcus Walker succumbs to the one thing he vowed never to do. Love found him that fateful night, but will his new happiness be lost while he struggles to save the woman of his dreams. Heaved unwillingly into his poisonous covert life, will she survive the threats of abductions, illegal experimental drugs, and death?

Morgan Walker's twisted family responsibilities will lead him to an ultimatum that shreds his perfect plan apart. Promised one woman, intrigued by another, yet neither owns him. Will the one woman who could redeem his narcissistic ways be lost to him before he realizes that he suffers with a broken heart and needs her love?

Can these entangled souls survive the relentless pursuits of unforeseen forces, stopping at nothing to get what they desire? Or can Breesan, Morgan and Marcus push through their fears and personal hells, fighting for what really matters most before All Is Lost?
I whisper, “It's too much.” Dropping my face into my hands, I fight the urge to
cry.  “Shit!” Holding me against him, Marcus strokes my back with a gentle touch. After several minutes the guilt ebbs away. Determined to be strong I shrug out of his hold so I can catch my breath. Normal is what we need. If we have to pretend that everything is okay around everyone else then I need to do it with him too. Marcus is suffering just as much as I am, he just doesn't show it.

But can she stay there when she discovers the dark past he’s so determined to keep hidden from her? Or will he destroy her too, just like he always expected? (Not recommended for younger readers due to language, drug/ alcohol abuse and sexual content) Meet the Author nicola hakenNicola lives in Rochdale, England with her husband and four children (and dog!). She is the author of two stand alone novels, Inevitable and Saving Amy, and is currently having fun working on her first series with book one, Take My Hand, to be released in October. When not reading or writing Nicola can usually be found carrying out her daily slave duties – cleaning, feeding the mob, cleaning a bit more etc… or watching The Twilight Saga for the fifty-billionth time :-) Excerpt Back on the sand I talked Emily into paddling along the water’s edge. She whined a little, complaining about the cold, but when I threatened to chuck her whole body into the frothy sea she soon quit moaning and followed me towards the shore. I stood still for a few long seconds when we reached it – gazing out in awe towards the endless stretch of unsettled water. For a moment I was back home. I was alone, admiring the effervescent waves crash against the rocks, taking forgotten debris and lost branches with them as they ventured back out into the impossibly vast ocean, and wishing they could take me with them. “Crap that’s cold!” Emily blared as a small wave lapped over her bare foot, snapping me back to consciousness. “Quit being a pussy,” I replied, kicking up a mighty-big spray of water her way. She jumped away from me quicker than if I’d just pulled a knife on her. “Oh my God, Dexter!” she squealed! “Stop it!” she continued when I splashed her again. “I mean it now. Stop,” she added after the third time, growing a little more serious each time. But I was having too much fun. Her angry face was too cute. Sensing her irritation growing by the second and enjoying it more than I should (I’m mentally stunted remember?) I scooped her up in one swift movement and tossed her over my shoulder, running deeper into the ice-cold water. “Dexter, please. Put me down!” “You got it, doll,” I said, laughing lightly and plopping her down into the waist-high water. “No! Please!” Any trace of humor immediately evaporated from my body. “PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE,” she begged, her eyes on fire with panic. She was all-out scared. Fuck that she was petrified. I lunged forward instantly, taking her in my arms like a baby and ran as fast as the soft sand beneath my feet would allow, towards the dry land. “Jesus, Em, I’m so sorry,” I rushed out. She was shaking in my arms. It was more than just the cold – it was pure unadulterated fear. “Shh, doll. You’re out now. I’ve got you,” I reassured. She buried her head in my chest and her body vibrated against me as the tears started to flow. What the fuck had I done? “I’m sorry, doll. I’m so fucking sorry.” Slowly but surely her body began to relax against me. Then she looked up at me just long enough to say, “Take me home.” So I did. And all the day’s fun and giggles became nothing but a grieved memory. Social Links

Will Jenny make it to her own fairytale wedding...

All will be revealed in "Veiled"

Come join us at L Chapman's Veiled release day party all day today
Lot's off things to win.

***Snippet***
I can’t believe it is only a month away from my big day. I score a line through today’s date on the personalised calendar I received from my friend Megan. She designed the keepsake in my colour scheme of white, black and pink and personalized it with pictures of Rich and me. It is a ‘me’ gift that Megan knew I would love. It is something only she would buy since she loves giving people personalised keepsakes. She knows me so well. The calendar is used solely for the wedding, and it has all my appointments written on it.

I only have fifteen days off from my full-time job as a nurse before the wedding.   Due to the fact I’m organised, every one of those days has plans. I just can’t wait. I’m finally going to have the fairytale wedding I have always wanted. I have dreamed of this special day since I was a child. When I was little, I received a book for my dream wedding, and I used to cut out little pictures of items that I wanted and wished for. We are getting married in a church, a big old-fashioned church followed by a reception in a castle. A real castle. A big do, like what I have always imagined. It’s supposed to be our day and I want us to be the centre of attention. I think Rich would be happy just getting married in a registry office with two strangers as witnesses. He is only going along with the big wedding for my sake. As soon as I began working as a paper girl at thirteen, I started saving for my dream day. Even though it is considered tradition, I didn’t want to rely on my parents to pay for everything. I want it to be perfect with my own personal touch since I plan to marry only one time.

My mum and dad met when they were eighteen and have been together for twenty-nine years. They have three children, Samantha, my older pain in the arse sister, Martin, my baby brother, and me. Martin passed away three days after he turned six. He accidentally ran out in front of a car to get his ball. Just thinking of him makes me tear up. My only brother killed because of a ball.

Thankfully, the doctors say he died straight away so he wasn’t aware of what was happening. But I’m aware.  I remember it all too well and now wish we had not been there. It was my fault; I wanted to play at the park that day. If I had not asked to go, he would never have been there. He would still be alive. I saw everything, but wish I hadn’t. I remember the car— the colour, make, model.Everything about that day.  It was like watching a film when everything happens in slow motion. Mum ran after Martin to stop him, but she couldn’t get there in time. Understandably, she’s never gotten over losing him. She was diagnosed with severe depression and admitted to the hospital after his death. Martin was a very bright lad with a heart of gold, he loved football, and he wanted to be a science teacher when he grew up. I wish he could be here to help me on my big day and to be one of Rich’s ushers.

My older sister is the complete opposite of me. Samantha has a very kind heart, but she can be a pain at times.  She will help you do anything as long as it’s done her way and convenient for her. The only feature we share is eye colour that changes to a darker colour when we get angry. Samantha has shoulder-length brown hair while I have blonde hair. Even with only two years separating us, she looks nothing like me. If one more person tells me we look alike, I will cry. We are two different people.

This is the one cover I have anxiously been awaiting!!  I can not wait for you guys to read this story!1 Hj Bellus has truly out done herself this time!!

Lacey’s Story…

Covering up pain is easy. It’s keeping it tucked away that’s hard. I’ve always needed the cover of tattoos to hide the nasty past that leached its way into me, tainting me beneath my skin. Not the shiny, trendy tats, but the ugly broken kind, meant to keep the world at bay. If they weren’t enough, then my piercings, foul mouth and crazy hair usually did the trick.

Life had taught me to never follow the rules, because when you do, you get burned. That philosophy served its purpose, until I met someone who turned my life upside down. Milly, the little hoochie, stormed into my life and changed everything with her undying faith in me, her love and her shitty coffee concoctions. I found a family in Milly, and her sexy farm boy, Cree. She accepted me without hesitation, and never ran from the dark and dangerous secrets that I harbored. My new family loved me unconditionally, with their showers of sprinkles and impromptu dance parties.

My life was perfectly imperfect until Tripp and his crazy-ass ideas of princesses. Our relationship is what most would describe as fuel meeting fire. We were both hell bent on burning each other to the ground. Tripp, fresh out of rehab, moved in with Milly and Cree to try and make a new life for himself. Tripp, the sexy as hell, charismatic beast, soon became one of my best friends. We shared our love of ice cream and tattoos as we blazed our own path that could only lead to a beautiful train wreck. The only question left is, will we set the countryside ablaze with our hot tempers and foul mouths, or will we paint our own happy ending filled with all the gushy shit normal people crave?
I'm just a simple girl who loves the country life.. .oh yeah! & a good corn dog! Throw in a little Vanilla Ice, and shits bound to get crazy!
- Be brave...
-Loves country life & music
-Gets the case of the "fuck-its" often

Excerpt</ h5> Once we reach the bottom of the stairs, I gain my confidence and take his hand leading him to the dance floor. “Let’s dance!” I don’t give him time to respond, nor do I stop to look at his face to see his expression. Instantly, Maggie spots me and her eyes light up like a deer in headlights. I smile and threw my head back as I grab onto Reed. I start swaying my hips and moving provocatively to Promiscuous by Nelly Furtado. </ i>The look on his face is priceless. “You don’t fool me, little girl,” he whispers in my ear as he moves my hair to the side. Goosebumps travel all the way down my neck and down my spine. Then he moves his hands to my waist and turns me with my back to his front. This reminds me of last night in my dorm room. Maggie moves closer and mouths to me “bad girl”. I throw my head back into the crook of his neck and giggle. Kelly and Derek are still dancing nearby. I can’t read the look Derek is giving me, but then I see him gaze at Kelly with amusement. I think he may be surprised to see me with Reed again. In this moment I feel at ease and carefree. I turn back around and quickly become aware that Reed is in a sandwich. Luckily it is just Quinn dancing behind him and when I look at her she winks at me. Soon after she is pulled by her hips to Matt’s grinding moves. The music turns to a slower Cold Play song and Reed pulls me closer to him. He starts to sway us softly. I dare myself to look up and when I do his eyes look heated and deeper, almost sapphire. Nervously, I bite down on my bottom corner of my lip. Reed runs his hands up to my cheeks and kisses me teasingly slow while lightly sucking on my bottom lip. It feels so good to be like this with him and I am wishing we were back upstairs in the bathroom or back in his room. Moving his head into the crook of my neck he plants sweet kisses just under my ear. As I feel myself getting lost in this moment, I am suddenly broken from it when someone grabs at my shoulder pulling me out of Reed’s arms and turns me around. With alcohol swimming in me I lose my balance, but I immediately notice the mixed green and hazel eyes that I had once found so loving. Reed shifts behind me and moves his hands protectively around my waist. The anxiety I had been feeling earlier quickly consumes me. I stare in disbelief and fear.   heartdividerPost

1170755_502594919828415_972857835_n Melissa Rolka grew up in the Chicagoland area all of her childhood and has always had a love of writing. She started by keeping a journal at a young age and then in high school she started writing poetry. A couple poems were published anonymously. Then in college she majored in Philosophy, which required lots and lots of writing. After graduating from Marquette University she traveled west to Los Angeles. There she worked for the Writers Guild of America and found herself submerged in the writers world. She worked on small writings, but never pursued them. On the side she became involved with a small theater group. Eventually she made her way back to the Midwest, where her heart belongs, and worked in business for several years. She found love, got married and has two beautiful children. Being at home has allowed her to keep following her love of reading and writing. The Perfect Distraction is her first full length novel. A second continuation of this story is in the works with hopes for a third. When Melissa is not writing she is caring for, playing with and loving her two kids. In between taking care of her family and writing she almost always has her nose buried in her Kindle.
